Étole, 2025
Braided flax stems, lithograph on Japanese paper
Presented as part of the 2025 edition of the Biennale Internationale du Lin de Portneuf, DÈS L'AUBE, from June 14 to October 5, 2025, in Deschambault-Grondines, Quebec.
For Caroline Gagnon, dawn embodies the feeling of security that comes with the break of day, as light dispels shadows and fears. It is a time conducive to resuming daily rituals as well as celebrating the miracle of life reborn. While her work takes on a sacred character through the evocation of the stole, a component of liturgical vestments, it also has a domestic aspect, through the woven pattern printed on the paper and the presence of flax stalks.
